A Common Mistake when traveling to Europe

Posted on 13 November 2009 by admin

A mistake that Americans often make when traveling is that they forget to bring voltage converters or transformers with them, when they travel to European countries like Italy, Vienna, England, or Sweden. The results of this can be annoying, and even dangerous. If you attempt to plug an American appliance into an electrical outlet in Europe, your appliance will be ruined and you may even start a fire. This is because Europe uses 220V. People from the United States, Central America, and South America, are used to using 110V. So in order to use your electrical devices when you travel to Europe, you must bring along a voltage converter or transformer, as well as a plug adapter. However, some devices are in fact dual-voltage, which means they can be used in Europe without modifications. But many electronics are only single-voltage, and if you want to use it in Europe you will need a device that modifies the voltage.

To see if you need a voltage converter, look at the appliances you are planning on bringing. If they say 110V-220V, or something like it, then you are in luck and you don’t need a converter, because that means that your device is dual-volt. But, if it only says 110V or 120V, then it is single-volt. This means you need a converter in order to use it in Europe.

To find out what kind of converter you need, you first have to obtain the wattage of your single-volt appliance. If you cannot find it written on the appliance itself, simply calculate the wattage by multiplying the amp by the voltage. The resulting number is the wattage, and your converter should preferably have a wattage rating that is 25% higher. This makes it so that your converter lasts long.

Lastly, all of your appliances need a plug adapter, because European wall sockets are shaped differently from American ones.

Choosing a Voltage Converter When Traveling to Europe

Posted on 13 November 2009 by admin

Are you planning a vacation to Europe but confused about what kind of voltage converter to bring? The answers are all here! Because of the voltage difference between the Americas and Europe, you need to bring a voltage converter or transformer on your trip with you. Europe uses 220V, and the United States only uses 110V. So if you try to plug something in when you’re in Europe, you will damage your appliance and maybe even cause harm to yourself! So it’s very important to get the right voltage converter or transformer.

A few of the electronics you want to bring may be dual-volt. This means you can use it in Europe without a voltage converter. Look for the voltage rating on your appliance. If it says 110V-220V, then you don’t have to use a voltage converter with it! If it says 110V or 120V, this means it is only single-volt. You need to buy a voltage converter for these appliances.

So what is the first thing you should do? Well, find out the wattage. This should be written somewhere on the appliance. If you can’t find it, multiply the voltage by the amp. This number is the wattage, and the voltage converter you buy should have a wattage that is 25% higher, or more. If it doesn’t, it may not last as long.

But, even if you buy the correct voltage converter or transformer, your electrical devices will still be useless without a plug adapter! Be sure to buy the correct plug adapter, and then you’ll be ready to go to France, Switzerland, Italy, or Greece!

But if you forget to buy a voltage converter/adapter and a plug adapter before you leave, you could spend your trip finding electronics stores that carry them!

Only some appliances function in Europe

Posted on 19 October 2009 by admin

You may or may not have heard that if you go to Europe and bring some electronics with you, they will not work. Now, if you are planning on going to a European country such as Denmark, England, Poland, or Italy, you must be sure to look further into this. But it may seem confusing. Fortunately, it is actually quite simple to make sense of. The United States and most of Central America and South America uses 110V. Europe uses 220V. This is why if you go to Europe and try to plug in an electric appliance, it may become damaged and you may even start a fire. So it is vital that you either bring dual-volt appliances with you, which you can use in Europe without buying anything extra, or buy a voltage converter or transformer for your single-volt items.

First you have to figure out which of your appliances are dual-volt and which are  single-volt. Look for the voltage rating. It will read 110V-220V if it is dual-volt. Many rechargeable items, such as laptop computers and digital cameras are dual-volt. You do not need a converter for these items. But if it only reads 110V, then you must purchase a voltage converter in order to use it while in Europe.

After you have determined which appliances need a converter, you need to find out the wattage of these. You can do this by multiplying the voltage by the amp, or it may be listed on the appliance itself. Once you have the wattage rating, buy a voltage converter that has a wattage rating that is 25% more than the appliance’s. This way, your converter will last through many uses.

Even if you are only bringing dual-volt items on your trip to Europe, you must make sure to bring plug adapters, because even your dual-volt devices will not work in Europe if it will not fit in the differently-shaped outlet.

Electrical Outlets in Europe

Posted on 19 October 2009 by admin

Did you know that the electrical outlets in Europe are different from the ones in the United States? If you travel to any country in Europe, including France, Germany, Italy, or Greece, and try to plug in an electric appliance, it will not work. It may even cause a fire!  This is because Europe uses 220V. In the United States, and much of South America and Central America, 110V is used. You may think that you now need to buy new appliances once you are in Europe! But luckily, this is not the case. All you need in order for your American electronics to function in Europe is a volt converter or transformer.

To find out if you need a volt converter or transformer, find the volt rating located on the appliances you would like to bring overseas with you. Some of your items may not need a volt converter or transformer. These will be marked with a rating that says 110V-220V. This indicates that your appliance is dual-volt. A lot of rechargeable things like digital cameras and camcorders are dual-volt. However, if it reads only 110V, then it is only single-volt, and you will need to buy a volt converter for it if you want to use it in Europe.

When you know which of your appliances require the use of a voltage converter or transformer, find their wattages on the back where the model number and serial number is located or the specification page of the manual. If the information is provided in amps instead of watts you will have to multiply voltage by amp. Then, find a voltage converter that has a higher wattage than the appliance, 25%+ higher for best results. It will make the voltage converter or transporter last longer.

And don’t forget to buy the appropriate plug adapter! It doesn’t matter if your appliances are dual-volt or single-volt, you will always need a plug adapter so that when you get to Europe, you’ll be able to plug your appliance in!

Things to Bring on Vacation to Europe

Posted on 19 October 2009 by admin

Europe is an exciting place. If you are planning a trip there, you may become stressed when trying to figure out what kind of voltage converter or transformer to bring with you. You will need a voltage converter or transformer when you go to Europe in order to operate all the electric appliances you have chosen to bring along. But figuring out what kind of converter or transformer to bring is actually quite simple.

First of all, you may not even need one. Your electronic devices might be dual-voltage appliances, which mean they will function in Europe without a converter. To find out if you need one, site the voltage rating, which should be written on your appliance. If you locate it, and it says 110V or 120V, you will need to purchase a voltage converter or transformer, because it is only single-volt. However, if your appliance lists 110V-220V, then it will function in Europe without a conversion device. Most re-chargeable items like laptop computers and digital cameras are dual-volt. Some hair driers may also be dual-volt.

But if you find that some of your items are single-volt and you need a converter, you then must find out the wattage of those items. In order to do this, either determine it by multiplying the device’s amp by its voltage, or simply look for a printed indication. After you have this number, purchase a voltage converter that is at least 25% higher in wattage than your appliance. This will ensure your converter will not burn out after prolonged use.

Voltage converters differ from voltage transformers in that converters are smaller, and more travel-friendly than transformers. They are used for most of the electronics that you are likely to bring on your trip. Transformers last longer, but you must unplug them when not in use so as not to wear them out.

And, of course, you must always be sure to bring a plug adapter with you, because in Europe the plugs are shaped differently. Then you are ready to go to Spain, Greece, Italy, or Hungary!

Are You Going to Russia, Georgia, or Kazakhstan?

Posted on 19 October 2009 by admin

If you are going on a trip to a country, such as Russia, Georgia, or Kazakhstan, do not forget to take everything you need. You may want to bring electric appliances such as hairdryers, curling irons, or electric razors. However, you may not have realized that these electronics will not work properly. Why is this? Well, these countries use higher voltages than the United States. Typically, the United States, as well as most of Central and South Americas, uses 110V. But other places like Europe use 220V. Because of this, your American appliances will not work when you plug them into the wall in a Russian house or hotel. But you don’t need to buy new, Russian electronics to remedy this. In fact, you can take your American appliances with you to Russia. All you need in order to do this is a volt converter or transformer.

In order to find out what kind of converter you need, you must first locate your appliance’s wattage rating. If you cannot find it, simply find the wattage rating by multiplying the appliance’s voltage by amps. Now that you have the wattage rating, pick a voltage converter. In order to avoid burn-outs, it is suggested that you select a voltage converter that has a wattage rating 25% higher than your appliance.

However, there are some appliances that are dual-voltage, which means you don’t need a converter for them. To find out which of your appliances are dual-voltage, look for the voltage rating. If the rating says something like 110V or 120V, then it is not dual-volt appliance, it is single-volt and you need a converter. On the other hand, if it reads 110V-220V or something similar, then you are in luck and you can use those appliances in Europe without the aid of a converter.

However, you will need a plug adapter for all electronics, because sockets are shaped differently.

Planning a trip to Europe, such as Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, and France

Posted on 19 October 2009 by admin

So you are living in the USA and want to plan a trip to Europe. You want to go to Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, or even France. It must be very exciting to be in another country! You’ve even brought your electronics and devices to use while you’re there. And then you discover to your horror that the outlets look completely different. How in the world are you going to use any of your plug in devices now? No problem. All you need is a voltage converter and transformer.

If you’re in the USA, you are used to operating on outlets using 110 Volt / 60 Hz. This kind of outlet works for the voltage range of 100-125V and is used in all of North America, some parts of Central America and South America, and also some parts of the Pacific. However, Europe, which includes Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, and France, uses a different kind of outlet. Their outlets are not only diverse in terms of shape and size, but also voltage. They operate on 220 Volt / 50Hz with a range of 220-250V. With this vast difference in voltage, you can probably imagine the chaos that would occur if you plugged in your 110V device to that!

A voltage converter and transformer would convert the voltage from 220V to 110V or vice versa, allowing you to use your device from the USA in Europe. Some devices may not even require a voltage converter or transformer if they are dual voltage, meaning being able to operate with both 110V and 220V. But the outlets are still different! How am I supposed to plug in my device? You may ask. That is where a plug adapter comes in. A plug adapter would let you fit your device into the wall. After purchasing a voltage converter/transformer and a plug adapter, you’ll be all set!

Choosing the Right Voltage Converter or Transformer

Posted on 02 September 2009 by admin

Do you need help with figuring out what voltage converter or transformer you need for your appliances when traveling abroad? Well you have come to the right place! As you may know, the outlets in the USA are often different from the outlets in most other places, such as Argentina and Spain. Countries in North America and some parts of Central and South America use 110V while most countries in Europe, like Germany and France, use the 220V variation. In fact, you may not even need a voltage convert or transformer if you have a dual voltage appliance.

You can tell if you have a dual voltage appliance by looking at the indications panel. If it says something like 110/220vac or 120-240vac then congratulations! You have a dual voltage appliance and that can be used in both USA and Europe and will only need a plug adapter to put your appliance in the wall. However, if it just says something like 110vac or 120vac, then you will need a voltage converter or transformer. In this case, you can purchase a step up voltage converter or transformer or even one that can do both step up or step down for more convenience. Just in case you want to purchase appliances from overseas and use them in the USA later.

Now just check for the watt rating of your appliance and multiply it by the voltage. Then choose the voltage converter or transformer according to your appliance. You should use a voltage converter or transformer that is about 25% higher so that it does not burn out after an extended use. Last but not least, make sure you have the appropriate plug adapter or else your appliance will still not be able to plug into the wall. Now you are ready to travel abroad and be prepared for usage of your appliances!

Will a Plug Adapter work or do I need a converter

Posted on 24 July 2009 by admin

What is a plug adapter anyway? You are planning a trip to somewhere exotic like Paris or London and you even have your voltage converters and transformers ready for your non-dual voltage appliances. But you notice that the outlets there are completely different from the ones in the US. Some even have more or less prongs! It is near impossible to fit your plug into these outlets and you probably would not even want to try, considering the damage it may cause to the outlet, your appliance, and even you!

But never to fear, plug adapters are here to the rescue! Plug adapters function as a way to connect your appliance to the outlet. It has two sides to it. One side has a socket where your plug can fit in, while the other side is a plus that can fit into the strange outlet. This way, you can still get the electricity from the outlet to your appliance.

Sometimes, the plug adapter also has to connect to a voltage converter. Be sure to have the appropriate voltage converters connected to your appliances. Your voltage converters should have a 25%+ higher wattage rating than your appliance, to make sure it lasts long. If your appliance is dual-voltage though, you don’t even need to use a voltage converter with it. If your appliance has an 110V-220V voltage rating, it is dual-voltage. If it has an 110V rating, it is single-voltage, and failing to use a voltage converter with it could result in disaster! Most rechargeable things are dual-volt, as well as some hair driers. But many things are not dual-volt. Make sure you know which of your items are dual voltage and which are single-volt. It is important to your appliances, and to your own health! And remember to always use a plug adapter, even with dual-volt appliances. It is a fire hazard if you attempt to use an appliance without one.

110220Volts – Voltage Converters

Posted on 13 February 2009 by admin

Voltage converters are becoming more popular due to the difference in voltage output in various countries. For example if you purchased a product in China which was 220 Volts and you bought it to the US to use where we use 110 Volts, the product would not work without a converter.

The following products fall under the category of Voltage Converters
: American volt setup, automatic voltage regulator, step down converter, light weight compact unit, power inverters, rack-mountable transformers and many more.

110220Volts compares all the various types of voltage converters in a table like format and provides you with all the information of what they provide and what they don’t. The table is a tick box table which includes whether or not a particular voltage converter is designed for continuous use, if it provides overload and overheat protection, has an on and off switch, does it have a voltage meter, which continents they will work in, does it have a regulator voltage adapter built in, its quality and many more. One that tends to attract customers the most is if it provided free ground delivery.

The best one that has been stated by 110220volts is the automatic voltage regulator. This comes with all the features mentioned above and an extra few more. The advantage that an automatic voltage regulator has over all the other products is first it is usable in all continents and second of all it is automatic. It saves the confusion and chances of accidents by using products on the incorrect voltages which in result damage the product. An automatic regular automatically identifies the voltage input whether it is 110, 220 or 240 and adjusts the output accordingly to what is required in your country. The key feature it has is compatibility.

Voltage converters and voltage transformers are the same concept

Posted on 26 January 2009 by admin

Voltage converters and voltage transformers are the same concept: they will turn the power of 110 volts into 220 volts, or 220 volts into 110 volts. Even if this will allow you to use your electrical equipment in almost every country in the world, plug adapters may be needed too, considering that plug outlets vary from country to country.

Most items, such as hair dryers, electric shavers, irons, coffee makers, TVs, VCRs, or DVD players, require power to operate. Unfortunately, the power voltage available is not always what’s needed. In this case, you will need either a 110 / 120 Volts to 220 / 230 / 240 Volts voltage converter, or voltage transformer; or otherwise a 220 / 230 / 240 Volts to 110 / 120 Volts voltage converter, or voltage transformer.

Here are the various types of converters and adapters available today:

Types of Voltage Converters or Voltage Transformers

There are two main types of voltage converters, or voltage transformers: step up or step down. Step up converters will convert the power to a higher voltage than what is shown on the appliance. For instance, an electric shaver made in the U.S. works with the standard 110 volt outlet. With a step up converter, it can be used with a 220 volt outlet in another country. Step down converters will indeed do the opposite: convert the power to a lower voltage than what is shown on the appliance.

Wattage and Voltage Converters or Voltage Transformers

Wattage typically determines what type of voltage converter, or voltage transformer you will need in terms of power. For smaller electronics such as electric shavers that are non-heating products, a 50-Watt converter will do. For heated electronics such as curling irons, hair dryers, irons, and coffee makers, a 1600-Watt converter will be needed. If you feel the quality of power will be an issue, it is a good idea to buy a universal surge suppressor along with your voltage converter, or voltage transformer.

For your computer, CD player, camcorder, TV, VCR, or DVD, voltage converters, or voltage transformers, can be used according to the wattage power needed. But keep in mind that there are various formats used for television programming and films (VHS or DVD) that may not work with your product.

A TV will need a more powerful voltage converter or voltage transformer than what is indicated on the back of the set, because a TV causes a power surge when it is first turned on. We always recommend our customers to buy a voltage converter, or voltage transformer, that is double the power listed. Many newer electronics in these categories are able to work with multiple voltage outlets: some electronics contain a simple switch that controls the voltage output. Just be sure to turn the switch to the correct voltage for the country you’re visiting – BEFORE plugging it in. There are also code free and region free players and TVs that will work fine in many different countries.

A Variety of Adapters

For traveling overseas, sometimes a voltage converter, or voltage transformer, is not enough: a plug end adapter might be needed as well.
Since many countries have numerous types of outlets, it is wise to carry a variety of adapters with you. Some adapter types you might encounter include: flat blade, flat blade with grounding pin, round pin, round pins with ground, round pin plug and receptacle with male grounding pin, “Schuko” plug, rectangular blade plug, oblique flat blades, round pins with spade ground, “South African” plug with oversized pin. Though adapters make the plug fit properly into the outlet, please remember that they will not convert the voltage.
Popular brand names for adapters and voltage converters, or voltage transformers, include: Regvolt, Seven Star, Simran, Franzus, Tripplite, Travelarts and many more.

Planning a trip overseas 110 220 VOLTS

Posted on 21 January 2009 by admin

Planning a trip overseas anytime soon? Did you realize that the electricity that we have here in the United States is not exactly the same as the electricity provided overseas One look at the outlets overseas and you will notice the first huge difference. They have a very weird shape and sometimes even more prongs. We have all seen the movies where an unknowing dim witted person travels overseas and somehow plugs in their alarm clock they brought from the United States and what happens next is sparks fly and usually a fire. The military more often than not always deploy or get stationed in an area that has those strange European outlets also. I have seen that a person will buy a plug adapter for their laptop computer and then plug them into the outlet. Next thing that happens is a call to the customer service center of the computer brand they have. They have just plugged a 110 volt computer in a 220v wall socket. The normal outcome is never good. We offer a fix to that issue and many others like it. We can supply you with a converter that will drop that high 220v power down to a safe 110v that you and I can use on our computers and appliances. So maybe you are planning on going overseas to study at a university or maybe just a move to a different land. If you were to buy a flat screen or plasma television I think you could expect at least to pay $500 or more. That is not exactly what you would want to spend on an appliance that you would be bringing back to the United States in a few years where it would basically be useless since it’s 220v. We have fixed that issue with our multinational compliant appliances.Multisystem appliances are the wave of the future and are more practical than the old 110v appliances we currently buy here in the USA. With economic strains and people looking for work in different areas now days, we have to be prepared for that move one day overseas There is also a huge push to make all things that are manufactured and sold here and overseas to be exactly the same. That means the US may be 220v one day or Europe may be 110v. In either case we cannot predict what voltage will be the future so why not by things that accept both and when that day comes you are prepared and not spending thousands of dollars replacing all of your current appliances that will become obsolete.
